Alex Bratu is Country Manager for JYSK Romania and Bulgaria. He likes working in Retail, he likes working with people and he dedicates his free time to his passions: music, mountain trips and authentic things. His main role in the company is to make sure everyone else is doing their job.
C&B: What is the story of your career?
Alex Bratu: „I’ve been working in Retail since 2004, when I got a job at Intersport. I was their first Romanian employee and my job was Business Development Manager. After spending 6 years developing Intersport’s business in Romania, I moved to JYSK. This year i am turning 10 years in JYSK. Time went by really fast.”
C&B: What were your aspirations during childhood and adolescence?
Alex Bratu: „When I was a child I wanted to be a sailor, and when I was an adolescent I wanted to be a rock star. I loved to play the guitar during my adolescence and I continue to love it.”
C&B: Tell us a positive and a negative experience from your activity!
Alex Bratu: „This Spring we started to work on a charitable music project for Hope and Homes for Children. I was happy to see that people got involved in this project – ten artists accepted to sing for this cause, and also the video team and the team from the music studio worked very hard so that the project would turn out well. In June we will start a CSR campaign that is supported by the music video. The purpose of the campaign is to raise the awarness of the needs that the orphaned children have.
I remember another CSR action that we had, that was negative because of the feelings I had. We are partners of UNICEF and we had a few field visits with them. I saw families that live in tough conditions and that need to make great efforts to send their children to school. UNICEF, in partnership with local authorities, has a number of programs that resolve some of the problems these families have. It would be great if this type of programs would be implemented all around the country.”
C&B: What is your advice for those who start their career?
Alex Bratu: „They shouldn’t give up, they should always look forward and they should never let anyone stop them doing what they want.
C&B: When you take a decision, which one of the two sides prevails: the rational or the sentimental side?
Alex Bratu: „The emotional side is the one who always wins. It is scientifically proven. People are always led by emotions and those who think that they can take rational decisions are wrong. The decisions that seem to be rational are actually emotional. Let’s say you decided not to buy a new pair of shoes this month, because you don’t really need it. You would think that it’s a rational decision, but it actually a decision that you take because of one emotion: the fear of not spending to much.”
C&B: Define the Romanian society, businesses and careers!
Alex Bratu: „We are still at the beginning of the road, we are searching for the right path, we started to help and care about each other.
